During the Cold War over 250 Nike missile bases were built nationwide to defend our cities from Soviet bombers laden with nuclear bombs. Only five of these bases remain open to the public today. BA-79 in Granite is one of them, making it a unique historic property. Civil Air Patrol members and volunteers havebeen restoring site BA-79 since 2018. For the past two years, the BA-79 team has held open houses andtours, providing visitors with a look inside this terrifying part of our history.
