Historical Society of Baltimore County presents a Special Speaker Series Event
Program will begin at 7:00 pm. Drinks and light fare provided.
In 1966, the Baltimore Orioles won the American League pennant and the World Series. While the city cheered a team led by a black man and a white man — the great Robinsons, Frank and Brooks — racial tensions were heating up, challenging a progressive Republican mayor to keep peace in his last hurrah at City Hall. This is the subject of the third play in Dan Rodricks’ Baltimore trilogy, entitled, “No Mean City: Baltimore 1966,” to be staged in March 2026. Discussion of the research that led to this play, and a journalist’s appreciation of the late Mayor (and Maryland governor) Theodore Roosevelt McKeldin.
Dan Rodricks was a long-time columnist for The Baltimore Sun & a former local radio & television host who has won several national & regional journalism awards over a reporting, writing & broadcast career spanning five decades. He is the author of three books, including “Father’s Day Creek: Fly Fishing, Fatherhood and The Last Best Place on Earth”.(Apprentice House, 2019).
