Native plants are an essential building block for the natural world and provide food and shelter for the wildlife that share our neighborhoods. They support the insects that are the primary food source for the many beautiful songbirds that visit our gardens, as well as amphibians and fish in our local streams and waterways.
This presentation will give gardeners step-by-step ideas on how to add native plants to their yards by choosing trees, shrubs, and plants with the best environmental value. This talk will include plant lists and names of Maryland nurseries that grow native plants. Gardeners will leave this presentation feeling empowered to make small changes in their yards that will have big and lasting impacts on our environment. All are welcome to attend.
Join us on March 16 as Master Gardener Patty Mochel will speak about “Native Plants in your Landscape,” a presentation created by the Baltimore County Master Gardeners that explains the scientific research that documents the essential role that native plants play in the environment.
About the Speaker: Patty Mochel is a certified Maryland Master Gardener and Maryland Master Naturalist, as well as a certified Weed Warrior. She has grown an organic vegetable garden her whole life, and began switching her yard from conventional gardening to native plant gardening in 2018. She is our Association Tree Steward and has advised many families in our area on the purchase and placement of native trees in conjunction with Blue Water Baltimore. For the past four years, Patty has been part of a team of dedicated volunteers who run the Native Garden Contest in Towson.
