Join us for a compelling virtual conversation with pilot, artist and historian Brian Hope and maritime historian Pete Lesher, moderated by Kate Livie, Chesapeake writer and educator. This engaging discussion will explore the evolution of Maryland’s pilotage profession—from the rigorous apprenticeship process and modern-day challenges to its deep roots in the age of sail. Drawing on Hope’s unique dual perspective as both a working pilot and historian for the Association of Maryland Pilots, the program will also feature rarely-seen images from MCHC’s collection. Learn how the legacy of piloting has shaped Maryland’s maritime history—and what only a pilot’s eye can reveal in the historic record.
